The Parkside-Kenilworth community is an ideal Promise Neighborhood site. It has a well-defined geographic boundary formed by the Anacostia River,a decommissioned Pepco power plant, a major thoroughfare (Eastern Avenue) and above-ground commuter rail lines. The residents live in five distinct housing tracts, which range from public housing to work force assisted housing to private ownership.
Approximately 8,000 individuals live in the Parkside-Kenilworth community, including 2,000 youth ages 0-17. Ninety percent of the households are headed by a single female with children under the age of 18.*
